Our Mission
Housed in the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Student Parents & Families (SPF) Program at the University of California, Irvine strives to help student parents, guardians and/or caregivers the proper support to maximize their college experience by providing a supportive and family-friendly environment at Student Success Initiatives. We are dedicated to guiding students with the necessary resources to meet both their academic and familial needs.

Program Goals
- To provide a support system for students with children and families.
- To help student parents, guardians, and or/caregivers transition and maximize their college experience and thrive at UC Irvine.
- To help student parents, guardians, and or/caregivers reach their academic and personal goals.
Overview of Program Services:
- One-on-One Personalized Academic & Career Support
SPF participants are required to schedule one meeting per quarter with the SPF Counselor. This meeting would encompass conversations regarding any academics/classes, resources, opportunities on-campus (jobs, internships, volunteering, etc.), and any personal support needed. - Academic and Enrichment Monthly Workshops
Workshops are specifically designed for SPF participants and will take place throughout the school year. Workshops will consist of a range of topics, including on-campus resources and opportunities, time management and study skills, health and wellness, financial literacy, summer planning, career exploration, graduate school preparation, etc. Certain workshops are collaborative with other workshop initiatives occurring at Student Success Initiatives and the Transfer Student Hub. - Testing Material and Printing
SPF participants have access to free printing and testing material such as scantrons and blue books. - LARC Tutoring Scholarship
UCI offers on-campus tutoring through the Learning and Academic Resource Center (LARC). This scholarshop allows SPF participants to have their LARC tutoring paid by SSI. SPF participants are required to complete an online scholarship agreement form and must adhere to the terms of the agreement every quarter.

- Textbook and Chrome Book Loan Program
SPF participants may borrow available textbooks, chrome books, and material each quarter, at no cost to them, through the Gateway Initiatives Book and Chromebook Loan Program. SPF participants may check out up to two textbooks or course materials per quarter and given a contract each quarter. - CalFresh Assistance
The SPF Program works closely with the on-campus CalFresh Advocates to help and guide the SPF participants with the CalFresh application. SPF participants have access to other Fresh Hub services such as emergency meal swipes - Referrals to on-campus liaisons and community organizations
SPF participants are referred to our liaison for academic advising and support, housing issues, financial aid concerns, and mental health services. - Welcoming Community and Study Space
SPF participants are welcomed and encouraged to visit the Student Success Initiatives office. SPF participants have access to their SPF Counselor/Coordinator. - CalWorks Verification
SPF Counselor/Coordinator will complete Welfare-to-Work Referral for Education/Training form. - Community Support
SPF participants and their families are invited to social/community events throughout the academic year.
